We couldn’t resist taking this picture of the youngest ATV’rs that have stayed at our cabins! Although it was wintery and rainy March weather, they had a great time riding directly from our cabins, and never missed a day of outdoor fun!

Experienced hikers and bikers will rise to the challenge of the Athens-Big Fork Trail which is a historic, 125-year-old wagon trail that crests eight mountains and features spectacular views of the Ouachita Mountains from high points such as Eagle Rock Vista, Brushheap Mountain and Hurricane Knob. A mystical cave and geologic outcroppings along the way adds to the allure. Other hiking trails include the Buckeye Trail, Valuable Forest Interpretive Trail, Tall Peak Trail and Caney Creek Wilderness Trail. There are also easier trails for bringing the whole family!

Dont miss the Shady Lake Recrecation Area!

Just an hour from Mena, the Shady Lake Dam is like a small version of Hoover Dam, very impressive.  The cascading overflow is worth a thousand pictures, especially in the autumn!   The park has a pavilion with ping pong and room to visit inside if weather threatens.  Outside you can swim in the lake or in the clear streams cascading over rocks, and climb the rock faces, or just chill out by the picnic tables in the wooded park.

Mena is a charming, bustling little town with a backdrop of blue mountains. There is pretty, historic Jannsen Park, antique shopping, restaurants, a live theater, art galleries, many craft shops, a nationally famous airport, and of course-a super Walmart.  McMillen Park is a large, wooded park is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of our community. McMillan park features an Olympic-sized swimming pool, tennis courts, playgrounds, base ball fields and a skate park for the kids.

The friendly people and the mild weather make Mena an ideal place to retreat to any time of the year. We have four seasons, but the winters are short and mild; the springs and autumns are long and ideal weather; summer are sunny and warm, with great swimming, water-skiing.
