“Celebrating 30 yrs of marriage and 25 yrs of ministry, we were looking for a place to get away, to slow down, to be quiet. It is always a risk when looking online—will it really be the way it is pictured? This was exactly what we were looking for and more. Beautiful and serene.”…. Dean & Marcia
You won’t believe this darling “Nest” with its balcony up in the treetops and its loft bedroom with its own little jacuzzi bathtub tucked up under the eaves. The Nest has a “storybook” queen-size bed; the morning light glows through lace curtains from England. Enjoy your morning tea or coffee on the private balcony, with sounds of the birds.
The Willowbrook Nest, part of the beautiful Willowbrook Cottage stone manor house, built around 1920, has been converted into a delightful private English-style vacation rental, with its own separate entrance, space and gardens. (Private quarters in left wing of Willowbrook Cottage is for the retired owner’s occasional use, and is never rented out, so you have a very private and quiet Nest and grounds!)
It lies within easy driving distance (2 1/2 miles) to the charming town of Mena, Arkansas, but remains tucked away in a very private setting among the “Shady Mountains,” in the heart of the Ouachitas.
Mena offers great antique shopping, restaurants, live theater (in season), beautiful scenery, and outdoor activities. Additionally, almost equidistant between Hot Springs, Fort Smith, and Texarkana, this holiday cottage makes the ideal base for exploring the many amenities each provides. Enjoy a day out at the Crater of Diamonds, Rich Mountain, Little Missouri Falls, or the Talimena Scenic Drive, which provides excellent views over the mountains of Arkansas and Oklahoma.
Antique stone bbq doesn’t work as bbq (there is a new metal bbq cooker), but makes a nice “fire pit” for those who like to sit outside at night by a “stone fireplace.”
Loft bedroom has deck off it as well as a cute little en suite bathroom with jacuzzi bathtub with shower.
Sunroom is a delightful English-style room to enjoy your morning breakfast.
European style cozy kitchen at The Nest–Bring your own favorite gourmet beans, or use ours with our electric coffee mill. Your darling little kitchen is furnished with dishes, pans, and linens–old world charm as this kitchen is carved out of an old storage room, with old beams still visible.
Stairway to loft bedroom–we put this in so you can see what the stairs are like–a little steep, but not difficult, and there is a handrail. If stairs are a problem for you, the other cabins, Woodhaven or Sunnybrook, are on one level.
Cozy den-library with wireless Internet, cable tv, dvd/vcr, and lots of books!
You can totally relax in recliners in the little “library” where you can enjoy free wireless internet, watch dvds or vintage videos–or cable TV, if you want to keep in touch with the real world while you are in your imaginary storybook cottage.
The Nest with bay window.
Real privacy and escape from the rat race are yours at the Willowbrook Nest. The whole right wing of the stone cottage manor house, this cute retreat has its own private “prayer garden,” and its own “secret garden.” The remainder of the cottage is never rented out, and is the quarters of your retired hosts, Tom and Carolyn. The Nest is completely divided off from the owners’ quarters and grounds, so Nest guests have great peace and quiet and privacy.
It is a really pretty drive to Wolf Pen Gap ATV trails–the adventurous guests can drive right from your Nest on scenic back road (402, see below) about 8 miles, or you can trailer your ATV and go on paved busier road. Before you set out on the back road (402, shown above) call the Forest Service to make sure the roads are open: Map to the trails and Forest Service phone number
